My argument was that it’s an unfortunate side effect of milk production as cows need to be impregnated to produce milk. And if we took care of all the calves that we’re birthed (through their entire lives) it would be very bad for many reasons. Side note for the curious: we did take over the farm, unfortunately my mother became too ill to actually manage it so we sold it to an actual farmer who has since remodeled it and made it amazing. My mother is fine, she just can’t handle all that work or it would actually become lethal. Amusingly, the farmer ended up buying all the cattle from my aunt (dad’s side) who also got into a state where she can’t handle all that work. Thats almost as much as milk is for a gallon!
