Personally I think the beak which can move around and give the creature life, looks scarier then a hole, and the only reason the original concept art wasn’t used is because the beak was impractical if not impossible to achieve at the time, in the example you gave the story evolved, in this case40 Year Old BDay Vintage 1982 Limited Edition 40th Birthday T-Shirt the story was held back because of technical limitations so I don’t know if they’re comparable I wouldn’t say the story was “held back” in the slightest when it comes to the portrayal of the Sarlacc.

It did exactly what it was supposed to do the first time around as a natural hazard being used for the “walk the plank” scene. We’ve already got the rancor to take the position of scary monster. Eh, I’ll take the redundancy of the Sarlacc beak over the redundancy of Jabba rehashing the scene Han had with Greedo a few seconds prior.40 Year Old BDay Vintage 1982 Limited Edition 40th Birthday T-Shirt I owned the OT on VHS at one point. And they where the original versions. Obi wans lightsaber disappears in his fight with Vader in ANH and in ANH Luke’s saber color changes and goes wonky for some scenes. And I never cared because the movies are amazing.

I’ve got this image in my mind of a fancy re-release of the original film, 40 Year Old BDay Vintage 1982 Limited Edition 40th Birthday T-Shirt with the original poster art, every version including a restored cinematic cut, and every special feature available, in deluxe packaging. I’d be so down for that. As it stands, I do have the 2006 DVDs, and…I really haven’t felt inclined to buy any release since then, which is good for saving money, but also a bummer. I have those DVD’s. It’s my understanding that the source for the theatrical versions was laser disc which was the best quality version of the those cuts ever released on home media.
